(Eufaula) - For nearly two years members of the Lake Eufaula Association, Eufaula, OK have been researching, writing letters and calling legislators trying to get answers to questions about the effects of selling a stream water permit and a storage contract which will result in pumping millions of gallons of water per day out of the lake on the lives of people and the communities around Lake Eufaula.

The water permit was sold to a non-profit corporation for $2000 that is worth millions that has the potential to devastate the lives and economy of the people who live and work around Lake Eufaula. So far people who have responded seem to minimize the situation and give conflicting answers as well as contradictory responses to those who have inquired.

"It is time our voices were heard and our faces were seen," says Lake Eufaula Association Executive Director, Joe Ward.  "A group of us are going to Oklahoma City to be present and visible and ask questions and to try and get answers to help protect the people around this lake.  I understand people need water to drink.  However, taking water to make money and for industry in other parts of the state at the expense of the people in SE Oklahoma who live around this lake is wrong.  We deserve to know the facts, to be represented and to be protected."
