MEDIA ALERT: April 14, 2008 Contact: Karen Weldin For Immediate Release 918-452-3184 Karen@EufaulaLakeshoreRealty.com (Eufaula) –Nearly forty people went to the capitol on April 2 nd for Water Awareness Day to support Rep. Brian Renegar in the fight to save Oklahoma water from being sold to Texas . Save Our Water board member, Jim Zellner represented SOW and stressed to the legislators the importance of water to our state and our area. Save Our Water fought diligently for over two years for Lake Eufaula to be recognized as a recreational lake. That goal was accomplished last November with the passage of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) bill. “Now we are fighting against our water being sold to Texas and maintaining our recreational resources around the lake ,” said Mr. Zellner. “We need to remain diligent and active to protect our water.” “An appeals court hearing on the Texas lawsuit to take Oklahoma Water is scheduled in May in Denver ,” said Karen Weldin, SOW President. “ Texas is lobbying our legislators hard to convince them to sell our water. We need to be calling our Representative and Senators, our Attorney General and our Governor and letting them know we do not want our water sold to Texas or any other state!” SOW board members also met recently with Ed Fite, CFM Administrator of the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission and recreational representative on the Oklahoma Water Resources Board. Mr. Fite complimented SOW members for their success with the passage of the WRDA bill making Lake Eufaula a recreational lake and the creation of the Lake Eufaula Federal Advisory Board. Mr. Fite stressed the importance of recreation and tourism in Oklahoma and shared his commitment to fight to enhance both. SOW was pleased to learn that 4.7 million dollars has been appropriated for the Lake Eufaula area for maintenance, operation and improvements. Three new members have been added to the SOW board of directors. These include, Jerry McCormick, Ray Dowd and Charlie Everett. SOW is meeting monthly the first Friday of each month. The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 2 nd at 8:30 a.m . at the Eufaula Lakeshore Realty office (4 miles East of Eufaula on Hwy 9). All interested persons are welcome to attend. Save Our Water is a group of community leaders, business owners, lake area residents and concerned citizens across the state who have organized to preserve and protect Lake Eufaula and all Oklahoma 's water resources.
